2007 Construction Season

Stage One

During the storm sewer main construction, the railroad ties from the interurban rail line were uncovered. When the rail line was abandoned, the next layer of pavement was built on top of the railroad ties. The rails had been removed.

The new storm sewer main was built in the center of Main Street.  This worker is backfilling and compacting the trench between Hazel and Vermilion.  The new manholes can be seen here also.

Two storm sewer crews lay pipe towards each other to meet at the highest location of the project at Vermilion Street.

    STAGE TWO

The new pavement on North Walnut Street has just been completed and opened to traffic from Main Street. It is much wider and the striping shows the new two-way designation.   The new pavement on Washington Street has been completed and opened. A much wider opening was built to accommodate the coal and grain truck traffic for Bunge Milling.

The new concrete pavement on the north side of Main Street, west of Vermilion Street has been completed. There is a 1 foot thick gravel base underneath the pavement. The workers here are installing conduit for the traffic signals.   Vermilion Street Pavement Replacement
