Stevenson Expressway (I-55) Widening Project Will County

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will begin the next stage of construction on I-55 starting the first week of March 2008 weather permitting.

Location and Description of construction work for 2008:
From Weber Road to South of I-80 (I-55 Corridor), resurfacing of existing roadway, building a third lane, and installing a median barrier wall.

Targeted Completion Date for 2008 construction:
Weather permitting, the 2008 stage of construction will be completed October 31st

Why construction is needed:
IDOT’s goal for improving the I-55 Corridor is to increase safety and help mitigate congestion along I-55.

Completed construction work along the I-55 Corridor:

• 2006 – shoulder improvements were made;
• 2007 – widening of bridges, replacement of overhead signs, installation of two new overhead changeable message signs
