SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of Transportation will open
bids on September 19, 2003 for various road and bridge improvement projects
located throughout the state. Also included are 11 aeronautics projects and
three land reclamation projects.
Following is a list of the projects by county:
1. McHenry County, IL 62, District 1, Contract No. 62547, 0.72 mile of
milling and bituminous concrete surface on IL 62 (Algonquin Road) from Sandbloom
Road to the Fox River Bridge, and bridge joint repair on the structure carrying
IL 62 (Algonquin Road) over Fox River, all located in Algonquin. 30 Working
Days.
2. Rock Island County, I-80, District 2, Contract No. 64943, 4.92 miles of
full depth concrete pavement patching on Interstate 80 between the Mississippi
River and Rock River. 15 Working Days.
3. Whiteside County, US 30 & Garden Plain Road, District 2, Contract No.
64944, 19.5 miles of intermittent bituminous resurfacing on US 30 between
Morrison and Rock Falls and on Garden Plain Road between US 30 and IL 84. 15

4. Sangamon County, IL 97/IL 125, District 6, Contract No. 72773,
Intersection improvement at IL 97 and IL 125 approximately 5 miles west of
Springfield. The work will consist of changing the intersection from a Wye to a
T-intersection design along with the construction of right and left turn lanes
and the installation of traffic signals. Completion Date August 01, 2004 Plus 20
Working Days.
5. Sangamon County, Frontage Road 8.81, District 6, Contract No. 72827, North
of Springfield along the east side of Business Loop 55 (Frontage Road 8.81)
beginning just north of the Ardmore Avenue and Peoria Road intersection and
extending north 0.48 mile, the work will consist of a bituminous concrete
surface course, 3 ft width aggregate shoulders and grading and shaping the
shoulders and ditches. 15 Working Days.
6. Cook County, 154th Street, District 1, Contract No. 83721, 1.42 miles of
bituminous resurfacing, pavement patching, and intermittent curb and gutter
removal and replacement on 154th Street from Dixie Highway to Park Avenue in

7. Henry County, South St & Burlington Ave, District 2, Contract No. 85326,
0.90 miles of base repair, drainage improvements, widening the northeast return
of South Street/Burlington Avenue and a 2 inch bituminous overlay from Page

8. Stephenson County, Adams Avenue, District 2, Contract No. 85328, 0.35 mile
of surface removal, curb and gutter and sidewalk removal and replacement with a

bituminous resurfacing, aggregate shoulders, reflective crack control, pavement

10. Saline County, US 45, District 9, Contract No. 98630, On US 45 between
Harrisburg and Muddy--1.43 miles of pavement patching, widening for additional
through lanes, resurfacing, earth excavation and embankment, combination

the removal of the east parapet and the reconstruction of the east 1'-10" of the
deck on the bridge over the Middle Fork of the Saline River. Also, construction

11. Perry County, US 51, District 9, Contract No. 98830, pavement patching,
bituminous surface removal and bituminous concrete resurfacing on Poplar Street
(US 51) from west of Walnut St. west to Hickory St., then north on Hickory to

12. Cook County, Wentworth Avenue, District 1, Contract No. 60480, Removal of
the existing structure and replacement with a 3-span steel beam and concrete
deck bridge carrying Wentworth Avenue over Little Calumet River in Calumet City
and Lansing. Completion Date October 15, 2004 Plus 15 Working Days.
13. Madison County, IL 255, District 8, Contract No. 76528, The construction
of new dual single span, composite concrete and steel web plate girder bridges
carrying IL 255 over Seminary Road along with the reconstruction of Seminary

14. McHenry County, Deep Cut Road, District 1, Contract No. 83586,
Construction of a three span, precast prestressed concrete deck beam bridge with
bituminous approaches, drainage structures and landscaping carrying TR 132 (Deep
Cut Road) over the tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad, 4 miles northwest of

15. Tazewell County, CH 3, District 4, Contract No. 89303, Remove and replace
bridge carrying CH 3 over Mud Creek and 281 feet of approach work and aggregate

three span, precast prestressed concrete deck beam bridge carrying TR 183 over

existing 3 span carrying US 45 over Dutchman Creek located 2.3 and 2.5 miles

1LR. Bureau County, Reclamation of the Spring Valley #3 Embankment, The
proposed reclamation project is located approximately 3/4 of a mile west of
Spring Valley. The proposed work includes the removal of approximately 20 feet
of collapsed box culvert, 631 cy of earth excavation, the installation of 20
feet of precast concrete box culvert, 1 box culvert end section, 223 sy of stone
riprap A-4, and the seeding and soil amendments for approximately 0.8 acre.
2LR. Vermilion County, Reclamation of the Sharon C & B Mine Group, The
proposed reclamation project includes the partial excavation and resealing of
two vertical mine shafts, one slope entry, and three subsidence sinkholes at two
abandoned mine sites in the southeastern area of Vermilion County. The proposed
work includes approximately 1250 cy of special excavation, placement of 200 tons
of stone fill materials, 70 cy yards of low strength concrete, and seeding and
soil amendments of approximately 2 acres.
3LR. Jackson County, Reclamation of the Old Kathleen Mine Tipple, The
proposed reclamation project is located in Dowell, and consists of the
demolition of a concrete and steel mine tipple structure, removal of a steel
hoisting cage from an open mine shaft beneath the structure, filling the open
mine shaft, burial of the demolition debris, and seeding. The work includes
removal of existing structures, 2,214 cy of earth excavation, 2005 tons of shot
rock fill, 488.5 tons of fine aggregate fill, and revegetation of 4 acres. A
pre-bid meeting will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the
site.
