I-57 MOTORISTS CAUTIONED ABOUT WEEKEND
TRAFFIC BOTTLENECK AT DAN RYAN MERGE
SCHAUMBURG -- Weekend motorists traveling northbound on I-57 will
face a traffic bottleneck and lengthy delays beginning July
18th-21st, and continuing again the following weekend, July
25th-28th as construction crews complete bridge repair work at the
Dan Ryan ramp, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced
today.
Northbound traffic will narrow from two lanes to one lane near the
I-57 merge onto the Dan Ryan starting at 10:00 am Friday through
5:00 am Monday. This weekend, crews will close the left lane to
repair a deteriorating bridge joint. Motorists will face similar
delays the following weekend, July 25-28, when work shifts to the
right lane and traffic is again reduced to one lane. Both lanes will
remain open to motorists during the week.
“Motorists traveling into the city on I-57 should brace themselves
for major travel delays this weekend and the following weekend,”
said Dirk Fuqua, IDOT’s Engineer of Project Implementation, who
oversees construction projects throughout the Chicago area.
The construction work has been scheduled on the weekends to
alleviate additional congestion during the weekday rush hours and
the heavier traffic volume during the work week, Fuqua said.
The joint repair work is part of the ongoing road rehabilitation
work currently underway in the northbound lanes of I-57. The project
is scheduled to be completed by November.
