Bridge Project to Close Wilmington / River Road over I-55, Detour Posted

SCHAUMBURG-On June 19, weather permitting, a project to replace the Wilmington / River Road bridge over I-55 will begin and will require a full closure of the bridge.

The $3.7 million project is located just north of the Kankakee River in southern Will County. The bridge will be replaced and widened. In addition, improvements will be done to the several ramps where they meet Wilmington / River Road. The work is scheduled for completion in late October. The contractor is D Construction of Coal City.

To perform the work it will be necessary to completely close the bridge to traffic. However, the ramps will remain open. Temporary pavement will connect the ramps to the frontage roads to maintain access to I-55. Detour routes will be posted as follow:

• Northbound I-55 to westbound Wilmington / River Road

Exit at Arsenal Road and turn left. Enter southbound I-55 and exit at Wilmington / River Road.


• Southbound I-55 to eastbound Wilmington / River Road

Exit at Lorenzo Road and turn left. Enter northbound I-55 and exit at Wilmington / River Road.


• Eastbound Wilmington / River Road

Enter southbound I-55 and exit at Lorenzo Road. Turn left, enter northbound I-55 and exit at Wilmington / River Road.


• Westbound Wilmington / River Road

Enter northbound I-55 and exit at Arsenal Road. Turn left, enter southbound I-55 and exit at Wilmington / River Road.
