SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of
Transportation is advising motorists that flooding continues to force
the closing of some roadways in northwest Illinois. Motorists are
advised to use caution and not attempt to drive through water-covered
roadways unless emergency road crews are present to help you get
In Carroll County, about two miles west of Thomson,
major damage has occurred on Argo-Fay Road as a result of our recent
rains and flood conditions. About 300 to 400 feet of road have been
washed out as a result of the Johnson Creek levy failure. Argo-Fay Road
is closed and will remain closed until the damage can be repaired.
Illinois 84 at the Carroll/Whiteside County line is
also covered with up to 5-inches of water as a result of the levy break.
Illinois 84 is open to traffic but IDOT flagmen are stationed at both
ends of the flooded area stopping traffic and directing one-way traffic
through the flooded area. Please use extreme caution in this area and
follow the direction of the flagmen. If there is any increase in water
level the Department will be forced to close this section of road as

detour on Illinois 78 in Illinois or US 67 in Iowa.
