CLARK COUNTY, IL -- The newly reconstructed eastbound lanes of Interstate
from US 40 to the Indiana state line will be reopened to traffic on Friday, May
24, as will the new eastbound ramps at the US 40 interchange.
The 2.5 mile section of interstate is part of the 10 mile reconstruction of
I-70 from the Indiana line to one mile west of Illinois 1. Traffic will still be
diverted to the westbound lanes at US 40 and reconstruction work on the
eastbound lanes will continue until July 3.
On Tuesday, May 28, the south ramps on the I-70/IL 1 interchange will be
closed for reconstruction. During this period alternate route signing will be in
place at the I-70/IL 49 and the I-70/US 40 interchanges to assist motorists. The
south ramps will be reopened for the July 4 holiday weekend.
Reconstruction of the westbound lanes of I-70 will begin around July 7.
Motorists are cautioned to be alert for changed traffic patterns and to slow
down in work zone areas and be alert for workers and heavy equipment.
