IDOT Suspends Non-Emergency Road Work for Easter Weekend to Improve Traffic Flow
Agency Details Lane Closures to Aid
Motorists’ Travel Plans
SPRINGFIELD
-
With thousands of
motorists expected to travel on state roadways over Easter
weekend, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)
announced today that road work will be suspended where possible
for the weekend to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
IDOT also provided advance notice of lane closures that will be
in place for the holiday weekend to aid motorists’ travel plans
and improve safety.
“With high volumes of traffic
expected during the holiday weekend, IDOT is suspending all
non-emergency roadwork where possible and providing a list of
lane closures in advance to help motorists plan their trips,”
said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider. “With less
construction activity and fewer lane closures through the
weekend, traffic congestion can be reduced, and safety will be
enhanced.”
Starting at 3 p.m. Friday,
April 6, IDOT will suspend all non-emergency road work for the
Easter holiday weekend and open up all lanes where possible
through midnight Sunday, April 8. Some construction zones will
have lane closures in effect, depending on the projects.
IDOT is urging motorists to
slow down, obey posted speed limits and drive with caution
through work zones. Holiday travelers are reminded that work
zone speed limits are still in effect wherever they are posted,
even where no construction workers are present.
