GRUNDY COUNTY, IL -- Eastbound Interstate 80 from east of Morris in Grundy
County to the Will County line has been reduced to one lane of traffic in
preparation of the reconstruction of the westbound lanes.
The lane restriction is anticipated to last approximately 10 days, weather
permitting, to allow for traffic control measures to be installed. When that has
been completed, all traffic (2 westbound lanes, and 2 eastbound lanes) will be
switched to the eastbound side of the highway. Traffic will be separated by a
temporary concrete barrier.
Reconstruction of the westbound lanes will then begin and last throughout the
construction season. Work is expected to be completed by November 15.
Extremely heavy traffic delays are expected in the construction zone during the
ten days for traffic control modifications. An alternate route has been signed
for motorists using IL 47 north to US 52 east to Interstate 55 south. Motorists
are encouraged to use the alternate route and avoid lengthy delays.
Motorists are also urged to use extreme caution when traveling through the work
zone and on the alternate route.
