IDOT Posting Illinois Route 23 Bridge Restriction in Marengo

Schaumburg, IL -– The Illinois Department of Transportation announces the posting of a truck detour to guide trucks impacted by the 15 ton weight limit recently imposed on the bridges carrying Illinois 23 over the Kishwaukee River and its overflow channel north of Marengo. This weight restriction will cause inconvenience to truck drivers who find themselves faced with a lengthy detour to IL 47 to bypass the restricted bridge.

To minimize the inconvenience to area motorists, the McHenry County Highway Department has consented to the use of Deerpass Road and Kishwaukee Valley Road for the marked truck detour route. The cooperation of the county has reduced the length of the detour route by 16 miles.

Signs directing trucks to use the shorter detour route are expected to be installed during the week of February 9, 2004.
