IDOT Hosts Public Meeting on Study to Widen Wabash Avenue
Local Residents Encouraged to Attend to Provide Input
SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)
will host a public information meeting on the proposed five-lane
expansion of Wabash Ave., from Koke Mill Road to Moffet St. in
Curran. Additional improvements on various City of Springfield
streets, including Hollis Drive and Cockrell Ave, have also been
proposed. The agency is finalizing an addendum to the original
Phase 1 (planning) study and encourages all interested residents
to attend. The date, location and time of meeting are shown
below:

Proposed improvements include widening Wabash Ave. from three to
five lanes, resurfacing, intersection channelization, concrete
median removal and replacement, drainage improvements, traffic
signal installations/modernizations, side street relocations,
and essential miscellaneous improvements. Hollis Drive, along
with Cockrell Ave. to Ogden Road, will be widened to three
lanes. Bicycle accommodations will be provided alongside the
project.
The purpose of the public hearing is to provide property owners
and the general public with an opportunity to review and comment
on the current proposal. Exhibits, maps and aerial photography
of the proposals developed in the study will be available for
inspection and viewing. Representatives from IDOT and the City
of Springfield will be present to discuss individual questions
and comments.
This meeting will be accessible to individuals with a disability
in compliance with current Accessibility Standards prepared by
the Capital Development Board. Individuals with a disability who
