IDOT Schedules Public Hearing for Improvement of US 51, IL 29
Open House Fulfills Requirement for Protected Corridors
TAYLORVILLE- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)
will hold an open house public hearing for the following two
projects on protected corridors: proposed upgrade of IL 29, from
a two-lane to a four-lane facility, spanning from 0.8 miles
south of Berry to 1.2 miles south of Edinburg; and for the
proposed upgrade of US 51, from a two-lane to four-lane
expressway, ranging from 1.4 miles south of Assumption to just
south of Shelby County Line. The meeting will be held from 4 to
6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church
located at 930 Haner Avenue in Taylorville.
The notice fulfills the requirement regarding corridor
protection for the two projects under 605 ILCS 5/4-510, which
includes holding an additional public hearing on protected
corridors when 10 years have passed since the original corridor
was recorded. The hearing will allow the public an opportunity
to provide comments on the approved corridors. The US 51
corridor was recorded on Sept. 27, 1993 and amended on Feb. 22
and April 7 of 2006. The IL 29 corridor was recorded on May 8,
2001 and amended on July 24, 2003.
This hearing will be conducted on an informal basis therefore no
formal presentation is planned. Representatives of the Illinois
Department of Transportation will be available to answer
individual questions and receive comments. Comment sheets will
also be provided for those in attendance who wish to provide a
written statement. Comments received at this meeting or sent to
IDOT District 6 by Feb. 7, 2012 will be included in the official
project record. The same material will be available for review
and inspection at District 6, 126 E. Ash St. in Springfield.
This hearing will be accessible to persons with a disability in
compliance with current accessibility standards prepared by the
Capital Development Board. Persons with a disability planning to
