SCHAUMBURG -- On the evening of June 16, weather permitting, work will begin
on the second half of the I-55 night resurfacing project in the Chicago area.
Starting at 7:00 PM Sunday night, construction activities will commence
on the section between Lemont Road and Willow Springs Road. The first half of
the project between IL 126 and Lemont Road is ongoing and previously began May
28.
Most of the 16-mile project will be completed by August 31. The section
from County Line Road to Willow Springs Road will be deferred until the spring
of 2003 so not to conflict with the current interchange reconstruction project
for I-55 at the Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
Overall, the work is scheduled to occur during the overnight hours to
minimize its impact on motorists. Throughout the project limits lane and ramp
closures may be in effect between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM weekdays, and as late as
noon on weekends in some locations.
