The Illinois Public
Transportation program continues to have a significant impact on
the transit infrastructure throughout the state of Illinois. The
Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 – 2016 Proposed Public Transportation
Improvement Program totals $13.538 billion, with $2.775 billion
in FY 2012. The FY 2012 program provides $1.228 billion of state
funds to secure an estimated $527 million of federal funds and
includes $1.020 billion of local resources.
To meet the operating needs of Illinois’ transit systems, the
proposed program continues to provide state assistance for
operating expenses. This program also funds the reduced fare
program that reimburses eligible transit systems that provide
reduced fares to the elderly, students and persons with
disabilities. For FY 2012, the operating portion of the Proposed
Public Transportation Improvement Program totals more than
$1.699 billion which is a decline in revenue.
