Welcome to the Illinois GIS Transportation Coalition!

IDOT is taking a leadership role in Illinois government to work towards developing and maintaining a GIS Transportation framework layer through the Illinois GIS Transportation Coalition.  IDOT envisions the Illinois GIS Transportation Coalition as being a place to share information between all levels of government.

The “Intergovernmental Agreement for Sharing NAVTEQ Proprietary Data” provides the opportunity for interested Illinois governmental agencies to form geospatial data sharing cooperatives with IDOT.  IDOT currently has over sixty organizations participating in the program.  The NAVTEQ data sharing initiative offers a roadway coverage that can be used for location analysis, routing, and other decision support applications for all persons requiring access and information about the state’s transportation network; while fostering relationships to further collaborate on changes and updates to the system.  These efforts are working towards establishment of a single roadway data source that can be used for congestion mitigation, planning, safety measures, emergency response, and other transportation related initiatives.
