The Bureau of Air Operations operates a flight
department to provide aerial engineering surveys, aviation services
for state executives and business affiliates, and emergency medical
transportation services. The bureau also administers all phases of
the aircraft maintenance program, including quality control
programs, aircraft parts purchasing and inventory, and the scheduled
and unscheduled maintenance and repair of rotary-wing and fixed-wing
aircraft. The bureau has two sections:
The Aircraft Maintenance Section develops and directs
an effective inspection and quality control program to ensure
aircraft maintenance complies with Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA), departmental and divisional
specifications.
Some of the duties of the section include:
Performing scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance and
repair of the division's fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
Procuring and maintaining an inventory of aircraft parts, fuel and
equipment.
Providing aircraft line servicing, refueling and inspection of fuel
shipments.
The Flight Operations Section coordinates and
schedules all requests for air transportation and provides air
transportation to staff of the offices, departments, agencies
and commissions of state government.
Some of the duties of the section include:
Providing helicopter emergency services in support
of the Illinois Disaster Plan and providing helicopter
air transportation to supplement fixed-wing aircraft.
Providing aerial assistance to the Department of State Police and
emergency support to local police departments.
Conducting aerial photography and performing aerial engineering
field studies.
Conducting recurrent flight and ground training for fixed-wing and
rotary-wing pilots who maintain training records.
