The Illinois Department of Transportation has initiated a Phase I Preliminary Engineering Study to evaluate alternatives for improvements to the US 20 Rockford Bypass from IL 2 to Interstate 39 (I-39). Click here to view the Project Location Map.

The study will analyze alternatives for:

Adding additional lanes on US 20 from IL 2 to I-39.
Reconstructing the US 20 interchanges at IL 251, Alpine Road and I-39.
Reconstructing 14 bridges within project limits.

The Department has created this site for the convenience of the public, local agencies, and businesses. It is intended to communicate project related information, to collect input and comments related to the project, and to provide announcements of public informational meetings.
